Batman and Robin: The Chiller has been sold !

Post by thom25 on 2012-02-05, 00:52

After months of speculation that Bizarro at SFGA would be removed to contribute to Six Flag's national ride rotation program. Intermark Ride Group has announced it has sold Batman and Robin: The Chiller. You can see the article here at: http://www.intermarkridegroup.com/roller-coasters/premier-dual-lim-coaster-rc1290

We have no word yet as to where the ride is going, so if you know or have heard anything, please feel free to contribute to the thread.

I for one am THRILLED with this development. Since it's installation in 1998, it's been plagued with problems and hasn't operated since 2007. The removal also opens up a ton of prime space within the park for a new coaster - let the speculation begin here ! Very Happy

Probably a Wing Coaster/Rider in it's place! :p

My guess is either a Wing-rider, Zac-spin, or giga. Given the SF statement about Zac-Spins when the one at MM opened, that would appear to be a good first choice. The capicity is no better than it's replacement, so it's a cheap replacement. Since every park with a giga, has a hyper, a giga for SFGA makes sense since they have a hyper and strata already. So unlikely given the proximity to KD, a giga is possible. I do agree Brandon that a wing-rider would be an excellent addition to SFGA and perfect addition from a marketing point of view. I guess I'm heistant on a wing-rider since they just installed a looping stand-up, so this would be the second looping coaster in a row. I know a Zac-Spin loops as well, but that's far cheaper than a wing-rider. Let the speculation begin, while I hope to see survey markings this summer !

A Zac-Spin would work and considering that SFMM just put in their Green Lantern version and if is indeed popular, I could see an east coast version released with a different DC Comic name and theme. It would fit nicely in Chiller's former spot, next to the Dark Knight.

True - but to remove a hyper for a Zac-Spin would be a bit unexpected. I'm still thinking either a giga or wing-rider.

It doesn't look like a very big coaster could fit in that spot, what about the area around it? Like what is surrounding the sold coaster?

Now, (this is pretty embarrassing for me to say tongue) I never knew That Batman & Robin; The Chiller still stood at SFGA even after the 3 times I've been there! Shocked I also see a new wing - rider going in it's place (call it Nightwing so it could go with the DC Comics theme Wink ), but does anyone have a clue where it could be heading?

It was a maintenance nightmare and a power hog as I recall. I'm honestly surprised a park actually bought it given it's history.

More than likely it was sold for scrap.

I was an earring nazi caused I worked at the ride during the OTSR era. That ride is super special to me and made me into a coaster enthusiast. I think when I finally got on Mr. Freeze and realized Freeze's top hat is not entirely the same as CHILLER's I was already starting to let it go after wrestling through the stories of the ride having alternating sides down over the years and the problems.

These days watching plants by me get scrapped and driving by huge mountains of scrap I think it's a viable option the ride could be joining GASM in the pasture, out to get scrapped. If it shows up elsewhere I think the ride is most honorable if the rolls return. I think some support pieces were just reversed in the change. I hope SFGADV kept the spare pieces for when they moved the ride out.
