Hey everyone, with the opening of Skyrush around the corner, what would you like to see or think Hersheypark will be building in 2013? Feel free to give your thoughts!

I would half to say on one of the wooden coasters have the iron horse treatment, or an expansion to the park or one of those wind seeker things.

Well, we all know the Park expansion project is underway, but not expected to be finished until probably 2015. 2013 I think will bring something new to the Boardwalk area. It's been a while since that area's seen something new.

For 2013, I don't think HP will get a lot maybe a small ride or two, because there spending a lot on Comet Hallow, Skyrush, and SDL new trains.

SDL is also getting new chain, and brakes.
But I think with the money Skyrush will make them, I expect sometype of water ride. It's been since 2009 since they've invested in that area.

I doubt a new wooden coaster will be installed(at least until the Park Blvd re-location and expansion happens) Mainly because 1)space issues and 2)maintenance is hard on woodies.

They'll deff be new food places in the expansion, the expansion is almost half of what the park currently is.

Every park could always use more places to eat because there always packed.

And IMO Hershey will definitely not get another Woodie in the foreseeable future. They already have 3(or 4 if you include both sides of Lightning Racer) woodies and they need more steel coasters to keep there Coasters at an good, even Steel/Wood Ratio.

In my opinion hershey park lags a big gigi coaster like Goliath or something. that would go great with the expansion or a big flat ride. with the expansion i would like to see either two medium sized coasters or one big coaster and a big flat ride.

^ If by a "gigi coaster" you mean a coaster over 300 ft, then that would make no sense after they just added there first hyper, Skyrush.

Hershey really needs some good flat rides- after the claw, flying falcons, and maybe the howler, they dont really have any thrill rides. For 2013 I would love to see a drop/launch tower (or any other thrill ride) back in midway america.

Re: Hersheypark 2013 Speculation Thread

Post by Coasterfantom on 2012-02-09, 00:53

With all the land where they are installing Skyrush there are definitely areas of the park they can expand. There have been so many rumors about where the next area the park will expand into. Over the years there's been talk off the front gate being moved into what is the old arena(season pass)parking lot, a whole new expansion into the same parking lot, and using the old arena to house, and indoor coaster and several other attractions, and more recently the expansion across the road. There's even been talk about the monorail track being altered to cross over in the new section.

Man there have been some doozy coaster rumors over the years. The hyper coaster rumor has been around since 1999 or 2000, and just now getting it 12- 13 years later. I remember when they first opened the Sooperdooperlooper, and the crowds that drew.

It's hard to believe that it took the park from 1977 to 1991 to add a new coaster(The Sidewinder.) When they opened up the Wildcat in 1996 that's when park really took off in adding new major attractions. I am happy at the way the park has grown over the years, but at the same time when I go on a Wednesday evening after work for a few hours in Summer we used to be able to walk on every ride. Now the last 2 seasons it's not like that anymore.

What I'd like to see in the future is the park expand at the rate that they have over the last 15 years. They don't make too many mistakes. My biggest complaint was removing the rapids, and adding the waterpark in with the amusement park. I thought it should have been a separate gate down Hersheypark Drive.

I am sure that we'll see plenty of new flat rides, water rides, and rollercoasters in the future. Yeah a drop tower (preferably an Intamin or S&S,) Screamin Swing, Disko, or Intamin Surfrider would be good flat ride additions. I look forward to the new clues for the next big attraction, and watching people trying to figure them out. Smile

What I would like to see for the 2013 season is instead of putting anything new in fixing and painting everything they have. Like Storm Runner is really faded and Great Bear. Also on Roller Soaker needs help it looks horrible and whenever I'm there everything isn't working. The last year I was there Lighting racers overflow que looked horrible like they stopped taking care of it. But if they really wanted to put some type of ride in a Drop type of ride would be cool and I would put it up on the hill so you can see most of the park from it. I agree with the lines I remember when the lines were not bad at all it seems that since the boardwalk has been put in the crowed is a lot greater.

I would like to see Hersheypark expand their flat ride collection. As of now, the Flying Falcons is the best flat in the park, and I always make a point of riding that ride. The Howler doesn't do much for me, and the Flying Eagles are okay (especially when there's a much better run version an hour and half north of Hershey!). I would like to see an aggressive flat, such as a Mondial Diablo (Intoxx), Safeco Crazy Frog / Salta Pro, Zamperla Air Race, or a Huss Booster. I would like to see a ride that's unique to the area rather than something that can be found down the road. The Flying Falcon is the only unique ride in the area, and the closest one is at Wildwood, NJ. The one at Marineland in Niagara Falls runs a mediocre program.

I love the Falcon as well and hope it stays for a good long time. The flats that they have now are great, they just need to start focusing on adding more. Maybe we'll see that happen in the next season or two as a way to add something new but not spend as much money as they did for Skyrush and the Comet Hollow revamp.

Hershey should not loose any flats, but add more flat rides. I still think they should get and. Extreme flat thrill ride like a drop tower or windseeker style ride. But well see soon!

Usually most parks next year rumors start in spring so well get new rumors soon!

That's when Springtime in the Park opens, so we'll be there stalking the park for any clues that something new is in the works. Whether it be a teaser sign, or survey marks/stakes, dirt moving, or the slightest clue that there is construction going on, we'll be covering it.

Well, flats are still VERY exciting to someone like me who monitors the park so very closely. Very Happy I suspect a Boardwalk(water park) addition is in the works. Since it's been since 2009 when new attractions were added in that area.

The wooden rollercoasters at HP aren't that old beside comet. All that does is put a metal track over an existing structure. HP does a great job maintaining their wood coasters so they don't need that. And a lot of times all a wooden coaster needs is to have the track resurfaced and smoothed every few years
Why completely redo a coaster when you can fix troubled spots
Also if you give it the iron hourse treatment wouldn't it lose the feel of a traditional woodie. I could be wrong or have my info mixed up. Let me know if I have things mixed up

IMO, I don't think the iron horse treatment would look right on any of Hershey's woodies.

Yeah I agree HP's woodies were designed to look nice w/ flowing curves and hills and be exciting. Plus the modifications needed to give the iron horse treatment would destroy the flowing curves and hills . Lastly it would destroy the classic wood feel

My Theroy is if you wanted a steel coaster build it that way to start. Or if you want to change it to steel make it all steel. That isn't the most cost effective but it would look better in most cases

What I would like to see at Hesheypark in 2013 isn't so much in terms of attractions. Instead I would like to see them update other areas like they have with Comet Hollow and Founders Circle. I think Minetown and Music Box Way could use with a healthy update. Especially Minetown, nothing in that area is really coherent or flows.

In terms of new major rides and attractions; I want them to hold off until the expansion. If they do too much now there won't be much to put in the expansion area. So I think we're in for 3-4 years of minor tweaks and then some HUGE things with the expansion.

I completely agree with this. Minetown and Music Box Way have no identity. I would love for these areas to get updated and then add some more additions/slides to the boardwalk (aren't there some footers already in place to accomodate additional slides on the coastline plunge?).

Some additional flat rides would also be amazing. I would LOVE to see a drop tower!

I agree. That would be nice. I would be fine with waiting until the expansion for a big attraction but until then maybe a big flat ride or something like that. Maybe a sky screamer. Very Happy

I meant I wouldn't mind seeing a 'new' attraction. E.I. a small flat bought from another park to put in. Put some money towards rehabbing the areas that need it.

But the expansion is going to cost lots of money. I rather they save by doing the two things I mentioned up top and be able to put large amounts of money into opening 2-3 world class rides with the expansion rather than just 1 coaster and a couple of flats.

But tops on my list is Minetown getting a huge makeover. If they are redoing Comet Hollow to fit this idea of an old railroad station, I would like to see Minetown made over to look like a small town from Coalcountry Pa.

In fact I think it would be awesome for Hersheypark to remake each theme area to fit and look like a region of PA.

I also agree with the identity of Music Box and Minetown. Minetown hasn't received a major update since it's inception twenty some years ago (with the exception of Great Bear and Frog Hopper). They refreshed Founder's Circle back in 2005 and now they're focusing on Comet Hollow, so Minetown and Music Box (which are a bit stale in theming) need worked on next.

Comet Hollow

Post by HPfan1013 on 2012-03-07, 22:36

So what exactly are they planning to revamp in Comet Hollow? I didn't realize more was going on than the addition of Skyrush, the update to SDL, and the new path from the front of the park? Which is a lot in itself.

They also moved the center section of the former Looper Lanes to a spot next to Great Bear's immelmann, Whack-A-Mole has also been moved down to that area (across from Comet's entrance) as well. Those plus other little infrastructures to the area we'll be expecting come the start of the new season.

I think Hershey is going to do what it has been doing since it opened Storm Runner...They open a HUGE fan favorite ride (Storm Runner, Fahrenheit, Skyrush) then they do nothing for 4 years, maybe a few tweaks here and there...They might re paint some rides and add some small flat rides...and in 4 years they will either open the expansion with another fan favorite probably a roller coaster or an extreme thrill flat ride or the will open an extreme flat ride in the current area if the expansion is not 100% ready...I dont think Hershey can fit another roller coaster in it's current area unless it gets rid of other rides and I would hate to see more rides go...Also in the expansion I believe Hershey will replace Canyon River Rapids with an identical or similar ride.

This of course will take a great deal of time to complete, but I dont expect anything major until 2016ish...
